Interviews – Good, bad and irrelevant questions

We get asked this all the time on our career coaching courses. “What about those weird questions that come out of nowhere and dont seem relevant?” Yes we run through how questions are structured, what employers are looking for in the answers and therefore how best to respond. As much as we get frustrated to hear of candidates being posed odd and quirky questions during interviews, we know that some employers do use them. Often it is to test how you react and your reasoning, as much as the answer being correct or not, so perhaps it is wrong to try to predict them exactly or overthink them. They are a deliberate curve ball! For us this approach is a waste of valuable interview time in the discussing the role, organisation and person.

Have a read of this article if only to get a list of possible odd questions. It will help you prepare some “appropriate” answers.
